McGill’s Dobson Centre Propels Student Initiatives Forward

The McGill Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship brings together all of the university’s entrepreneurial activities. Its objective is to turn McGill Students into the renowned leaders of tomorrow by training them in the pursuit of ambitious and positive entrepreneurial ventures.

The Centre not only includes the Desautels Faculty of Management but is open to all of the university’s departments. This ensures that everyone is able to engage in the positive social and economic benefits of entrepreneurial creation. The Centre has catalysed students by collaborating with important firms such as L’Oréal and has enabled its most promising start-ups to visits Silicon Valley in San Francisco.

Supporting Future Entrepreneurs

The most recent social innovation to come out of the centre is the McGill X-1 Accelerator—an intensive seasonal program that runs for 10 weeks to accompany the creation of start-ups.

From June 5 th to August 8 th , 2017, the start-ups receive access to the Dobson Centre’s network of mentors and entrepreneurs, with the hopes of receiving financing for their projects.

The start-ups that will receive the most benefits are those who have identified a social- market failure in a specific area. These start-ups will be accompanied in the development of a tailored product, which is key to accessing financing.
